A beautiful collection of stories, poetry and essays from Raymond Carver. Fires, the title essay, is a fabulously human and honest telling of what it means to be a writer. Some stories appeared in What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, but are revised and somehow even better than the first time around. A great intro to Carver's wide range of work. Highly recommended for those who want to write.
